HOW CAN YOU USE YOUR IRA TO MAKE A “TAX FREE” GIFT TO THE BOUVIER HEALTH FOUNDATION?

When you support BHF with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) you will receive tax benefits in return. When you plan your required minimum distributions (RMD) from your IRA you can receive  a tax benefit for your charitable giving.

To start:  Share your giving plan with your financial advisor before you decide to make the charitable contribution.

Key Points to remember:

  • You must be over 70 1/2 or older.  RMDs start at 73.

  • Distributions must be made from your IRA administrator directly from a traditional IRA account and directed to the American Bouvier des Flandres Club for the Bouvier Health Foundation.

  • Gifts must go to ABdFC/BHF directly and cannot go to donor-advised funds.

  • Gifts must be from traditional IRAs where there are currently no employer contributions (inactive).

Tax Benefits to you:

  • Qualified Charitable Contributions (from IRAs) are excluded as gross income from Federal income tax on your IRS Form 1040.

  • The year you make the gift; it counts toward your required minimum contribution.

  • This might help you avoid a higher tax bracket if you are adding a RMD to your income.
